This program is a great opportunity for anyone interested in knowing more about the Catholic Church and in growing in their faith. Many participants are active in their parish in volunteer roles or are interested in becoming more active. They lead scripture study groups, are on the CEW team, teach faith formation, prepare young people for Confirmation, are dedicated to service projects, or journey with adults as they are initiated into the Catholic Church. Some participants are in part-time or full-time parish ministry and are being trained for specific roles. There are many reasons why people join the MFP (Ministry Formation Program). It is adult faith formation designed to be convenient, theologically sound, and comprehensive in its curriculum.
The Ministry Formation Program is more than a program to train people for ministry, it is also a great way to grow in your faith and learn more about how you can become more active in your parish. Click here for more information.
Virtual Learning Community for Faith Formation (VLCFF)
The Office of Faith Formation of the Diocese of Davenport has joined with the Virtual Learning Community for Faith Formation (VLCFF) to offer online certification courses to catechists and adults throughout the diocese. VLCFF, based at the University of Dayton, is an Internet distance-learning initiative that supports catechetical formation of the Church. In collaboration with its partners throughout the country, VLCFF works to complement and support traditional diocesan efforts to enhance pastoral and educational services. The Church is creating a new space for ongoing formation based on the evolving lifestyles and ministry needs. Over 60 online courses and seminars are available throughout a given year, including "Catholic Doctrine", "Sacraments", "Scripture", "Catechesis", "Social Justice", "Jesus", "Ecclesiology" , "Church History" and "Liturgy". The online courses typically run three to six weeks. Each is capped at 15 participants and is designed to be an experience within a small "virtual" community--not an independent study.
